Dialogue Vanderbilt hosts visiting fellow Jennifer Carlson for gun rights and violence discussion
October 16, 2023
Dialogue Vanderbilt hosted a public forum as part of the campus-wide Free Speech Week and the Open Dialogue Visiting Fellows program, focused on the national gun debate.
Jennifer Carlson, a 2022 MacArthur Fellow, NRA-certified gun instructor, and author, shared her insights on gun violence, survivor support, and the changing role of guns on college campuses. The panel included former Nashville mayor Megan Barry and Beth Joslin Roth, executive director of the Safe Tennessee Project, with Dr. Jonathan Metzl moderating.
The forum aimed to foster productive debates on gun violence and encourage open communication within the Vanderbilt community, despite the challenges posed by the polarized national discourse on gun rights.
