Annual Guns in Society Symposium

CSGS's Inaugural Guns in Society Symposium

January 30 - January 31st, 2025

Downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State University

The ASU Center for the Study of Guns in Society is hosting its inaugural Guns in Society Symposium under the theme "Bridging Gun Divides, Building a Better Gun Debate."

On Thursday, January 30th, join us for a Keynote Panel on "Building a Better Gun Debate". Two members of the Tennessee 11 and the Builders Movement—Jaila Hampton and Adam Luke—will engage alongside scholars Dr. Christina Colosimo (University of Arizona) and Dr. David Yamane (Wake Forest) to examine the power of conversation in transcending our gun divides.

Our symposium panels, featuring nearly 40 scholars across gun studies, will run on Friday, January 31st; please check back for a program.

On Friday, January 31st, join us for a Keynote Panel on "Expanding the Experts", featuring the authors of Murder Town, USA (Yasser Payne,  Brooklynn Hitchens and Darryl Chambers) and moderated by ASU's Marva Goodson. The panel  explores not just how they reckoned with the realities of gun violence but also created collaborations across academia and impacted communities through "street participatory action research."
